The Fox will be bursting with soul this weekend when Soulive takes over for three days of concerts and workshops they’re calling Snowlive. Everything kicks off on Friday night with a performance from the soulful jam band, now in it’s 13th year together, along with J.J. Grey & The Hartswick Horns. The band will run two workshops a day on Saturday and Sunday, with performances each night. For the final show on Sunday, they’ll play their interpretations of The Beatles from their latest album, Rubber Soulive. Saturday’s workshops are on songwriting and composition, taught by keyboardist and bassist Neal Evans, and improvisation and musical vocabulary, taught by guitarist Eric Krasno. Full Post…

HARRISON, Neb. — All but one of the bighorn sheep that made it onto the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission caravan from Canada to the Pine Ridge made it safely home. One ewe died on the trip, leaving 40 survivors in Nebraska’s fifth herd to be relocated here since the once-native species died out to overhunting and livestock diseases . Kanye West was one of the headliners at this year’s Big Day Out.

SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell reportedly called Kanye West “retarded” as the Big Day Out’s headlining acts faced off against each other at the Gold Coast Big Day Out.

Reports have emerged of a growing spat between the two acts after West’s soundcheck on a neighbouring stage drowned out part of Soundgarden’s set during the Sunday leg of the touring Australasian festival.

Soundgarden’s fans booed when West’s sound check interfered with their performance.

No matter how successful Big Gigantic gets, the duo still sounds like Boulder. Nocturnal doesn’t represent any drastic changes, but it’s another solid, danceable record. Saxophonist and producer Dominic Lalli and drummer Jeremy Salken once again take some funky live instrumentation and blend in hip-hop and dub beats, resulting in a sound some might call “jamtronica.” It sums up Big Gigantic pretty nicely, but term doesn’t really do the music justice, mostly because it just sounds bad. Without the live saxophone and drums, Big G would be far less exciting — but those elements add just enough soul to the otherwise standard wobbles and whomps of dub beats. On Full Post…

Thousands more people will gain access to affordable health care when OneWorld Community Health Centers completes its expansion next year.

OneWorld, based at the Livestock Exchange Building near 30th and L Streets, already is the largest provider of primary health care services in South Omaha. The expansion will add two four-story buildings on either side of the Exchange Building, providing additional clinic space and 32 units of affordable housing for senior citizens.

Wednesday morning’s groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction.
