In Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1, Chaske Spencer plays the leader of the wolf pack, Sam Uley. Off the set, the 36-year-old star takes his role as protector very seriously.

Spencer talked to Parade.com about bonding with his fellow werewolves over those shirtless scenes and saying farewell to the franchise that kick-started his career.

COUNCIL BLUFFS Word that Council Bluffs was named the No. 2 Iowa Tourism Community of the Year for 2011 sparked a party Friday afternoon.

Not just to celebrate the designation from the Tourism Office of the Iowa Economic Development Authority. But to salute the Council Bluffs city employees who worked to keep Council Bluffs “open for business” during a summer of Missouri River flooding.

The announcement at the Council Bluffs Convention and Visitors Bureau Friday turned into a surprise party for city workers.

“Council Bluffs was saved from a disastrous tourism season thanks to the efforts of our city personnel.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Ashton Kutcher knows what a tough day is like. Demi Moore announced that she’s ending their marriage, and Kutcher earned a slap from his top CBS boss for a controversial Twitter posting.

During a Q-and-A session Thursday at a TV industry meeting, CBS Corp. Chief Leslie Moonves said he’s pleased with the ratings for revamped “Two and a Half Men” and with new star Kutcher – “aside from his comments about Penn State,” Moonves added.

Last week, Kutcher condemned the firing of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and then recanted the Twitter posting after it drew a flurry of criticism.

I hope all are having a happy Veterans Day — especially my favorite veteran: my dad, Emanuel Rosenthal. His Army unit — the 83rd Infantry, also known as the Thunderbolt or Ohio division — had a memorable and historic push through Europe beginning in the summer of 1944. They moved through Normandy in the days after D-Day, fought in the breakout from Normandy, and rushed across France, only to be caught up in the horrific Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. The division later pushed into Germanny, and was involved in liberating a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp.

It’s hard for me to imagine the thoughtful, soft-spoken man I grew up with as a warrior.
