Madison beachgoers, if you were hoping to enjoy a smoked ham and cheese sandwich under the sun this summer, here’s some tough news. The popular Beach Street Sandwiches food truck, which debuted last July, has moved on.

Run by Greg McCarty and Sara Pepitone, the truck built a following at East Wharf Beach and other locations in town with its gourmet sandwiches made with locally-sourced ingredients. Pepitone confirmed that the truck has been sold, but said the two are considering future ventures in New York City, Fairfield County or the shoreline. “It’s surely a work in progress,” she said.

In the meantime, McCarty is putting his classically-honed skills to work as executive chef of Ruschmeyer’s in Montauk. McCarty has serious Manhattan credentials, having trained under Jean-Georges Vongerichten and later cooking at Nobu 57 and Bouley. Pepitone said a few Beach Street customers have already made the trek to the Hamptons to enjoy his new menu.
